I wonder what CS Lewis, Billy Graham or even Jerry Falwell would have to say about this year's election. My father raised us to glean truth in both conservative and liberal frames of mind. We were taught to make up our own minds, based on fact, not conjecture. That makes finding "the lesser of two evils" an unsatisfying course of action. I seek to support the person who tells the greater amount of truth.
Thanks Felicia! I think many of us struggle to break out of the left-right paradigm and see a bigger picture. I found Screwtape to be especially helpful with that, because he’s got an entirely separate agenda going on. Glad you enjoyed it!
I have to say though, the best part for me has been interacting privately with some of the pushback, where people from both sides are *sure* of who Screwtape means here, but really are just interacting with their own biases. Super interesting stuff.
Thanks for the kind words Frankie! Glad to hear you enjoyed it, it means a lot when someone takes the time to share an encouraging word rather than just keep it moving.
I’m really just glad it’s encouraged others to think. This topic can seem so difficult to broach sometimes…apparently Screwtape is the surprise way in.
This clever satirical update of Screwtape Letters starts with a promise to announce the devil’s candidate for president. Of course the promise is broken, since the devil is the father of lies.
Though neither candidate proclaims Jesus as Lord, I will vote for the candidate who holds to "some" Biblical principles. As I see it, the other one does not show any respect for Christian values. Notice I didn't use names or pronouns.
I host a C.S. Lewis podcast and we’re currently focusing on The Screwtape Letters. I mean it when I say that this is one of the most phenomenal riffs off Lewis’ work I’ve ever read. SO incredibly well done. Thank you for writing this.
Wow, thanks Kimberly! My hope was to write something worthy of Lewis, even if only by honoring his creation in Screwtape’s manner and disposition. Glad you enjoyed it!
This is wonderful. In contrast to the way Screwtape recommends obfuscation to the devils, I found this article clarifying. Has anyone else noticed how the two sides, these combatants, mirror one another? And like a mirror held up to a mirror, you see only a tunnel of nothing. Only mirrors, and smoke.
More informative than most of the coverage I’ve encountered when preparing for this election. Okay I’m being a bit cheeky but seriously, this is great!

Great riff on CS Lewis’ classic. Well done! I feel inspired to stop thinking of the other side as demonic.

My immediate thought was "I don't know which one is the blithering idiot and which the shameless liar". Maybe that was part of the point.

This is brilliant, timely, refreshing. Just wow. I listened, and it was if CS Lewis wrote that speech himself.

Well done! Thank you for directing us to keep our eyes on Jesus.
Great read! Screwtape Letters is one of my favorites and you put the perfect spin to it.
Thanks for reading Mary!
Great work! All humans are flawed. Some discernment is a light in the darkness. It might keep us from falling off a cliff.
